Helo ‘na! (That’s welsh for Hello There). As you might have guessed, my name is Tomos and I’m a freelancer from the United Kingdom.
I specialise in front end development and work daily with xHTML / CSS / WordPress / Thesis framework. These languages and tools allow me to help users create their online presence.
I spent 3 years of my life studying for a Business Information Technology degree from Aberystwyth University, and I graduated with that degree during the summer of 2010. During my time at University, I gained invaluable skills, including:
- Group/Team Work: A strong emphasis was placed on developing the skills needed to work within a group environment, including activity-based weekends. These weekends placed an emphasis on working as a group to solve problems. Group work was also key during my second year, where our project was to develop a web-based language learning system on the web. Our group came out with a 1st – the highest grade band possible. Within the group I worked with others to develop the website.
- Project Management Skills: My final year project (or dissertation) was focused around developing a personal training system on the web. A strict schedule had to be followed if the development, testing and writing of the dissertation were to be handed in on time. As part of my dissertation focused around WordPress, I was also asked by my supervisor to lend a hand to a fellow student who was also using WordPress for his dissertation.
I’m now on the final leg of my Masters degree in Management. I chose to take this route after graduating due to my interest in business as it compliments the technical aspect of what I learnt during my time studying for my undergraduate degree. It has also given me an invaluable look into real-world business ideas & methodologies, which in turn I can put back into my development process.
